Weather and Water warnings?

by Chris Kameen on December 5, 2013

Just recently I heard that the George’s River had been contaminated and there was advice not to go in the water. We had received no warnings about this, so I decided to investigate where to go to get the various warnings.

Clearly the weather is reported on the FM and AM radio and also on the VHF, so warnings can be received this way or directly from the BoM website. We should be checking this on a regular basis!

General boating warnings are issued by Roads and Maritime, (formerly NSW Maritime) and they might report dangerous bar conditions, water quality sometimes:

The challenge here is that Maritime are re-reporting from other sources and so after some investigation with maritime I have enrolled for a Water quality update from the environment centre. This pops in as an email each day for our areas of operation and happy days we now have a warning system. It wasn’t easy to find though!
