How are modern ropes made

by Chris Kameen on August 31, 2014

Ropes are such an integral part of sailing and have come along way from the old hemp ropes to super duper high technology manmade fibres. Different types of ropes are used for different purposes on boats.

For example a nylon rope that has good stretch capabilities is ideal for moorings/anchor lines and towing. The stretch stops the rope from ‘jerking’ as the waves pass the boat.

These nylon ropes are useless for such things as halyards due to this stretch, instead we would use a multibraid pre-stretch rope. This interesting video was shared with me recently and thought this would be ideal to share with you guys.
