About Chris Kameen

Chris Kameen and Gold medal winnersAnyone who meets Chris can’t fail to notice his love for sailing and the adventures that come with it. Every new person he introduces to the sport puts a massive grin on his face!

One of his best traits as an instructor is makes you feel so safe and comfortable that you forget about any fears you may have and can’t help but have fun. His patience, calmness and confidence on a boat are why people of all ages and experience have come to Chris for help getting out on the water for the first time or to brush up on their skills.

Chris has a considerable amount of experience in instructing and coaching sailing, and working with a wide range of ages from children through to adults.

As an RYA and YA accredited dinghy and keelboat instructor, he has been teaching and coaching for nearly 20 years in the UK and Australia. During this time he has taught hundreds of beginners how to sail, and worked with numerous children across a range of schools in Sydney.

Chris has also coached a number of elite sailors, including a number of National title winners. One of his more glamorous gigs was coaching the GB Youth Olympic Team to a Gold Medal in Sydney in 2007, as well as taking responsibility for their welfare whilst they were away from home. One of these sailors, Kate MacGregor, went on to sail for Team GB in London 2012.

As a competitor, Chris has won multiple National and International titles in all disciplines of sailing (team, match and fleet racing) and therefore has a unique overview of the skills required in each discipline. He still gets out and races with mates on a 16 foot skiff from Manly as well as travelling to team racing events around the country where possible. It’s fair to say – he’s not as quick as he was, but can still give the youngsters a run for their money on a good day!

Chris is keen to get people out on the water having fun. He believes that the two locations – Manly and St George – are both ideal learn to sail venues that offer a huge opportunity for Sydney-siders to have a go at sailing.
